Team Roping

Two ropers compete. The "header" chases the steer and throws his loop around the horns turning the animal so the "heeler" may get  into position to throw a loop around the heels. Both must "dally" their ropes on the saddle horns after making their hitches, time is called when both horses turn and face each other, with the steer in the middle and the ropes taut. This is an open division event in youth rodeo and both boys and girls can compete. Each contestant is allowed one rope, and each team is allowed three throws. Roping steers without turning loose of the loop is no catch. A 5 second penalty is assessed for catching one foot.
